Day 13 - Paint pens, tiles

These were done on 4" x 4" ceramic tiles using Elmers Paintables paint pens. They worked great for outlining but didn't work so good for filling the color in.

Day 12 - Pastel

This was done on dark blue scrapbook paper. I thought it had enough "tooth" but after about two layers it wouldn't take any more pastel. It just flaked off. I was looking at the pear from above and don't like the position where I put the highlights.

Day 8 - Pear in Blue Dish

I have always liked the paintings by John Nieto. You know the words to the old song, "Zing went the strings to my heart", I don't know the name of the song but I think Judy Garland sang it in an old movie. Anyway, Every time I see a painting by John Nieto ZING goes the string to my heart. If I could have just one famous painting in the whole wide world it would be his painting of a coyote.

So I tried to attempt to do something in his "style". I wasn't able to get the vivid color h uses (he works in acrylics) . I didn't come close to succeeding but it was an interesting challenge.

Day 7 - gourd

I found this gourd in my garden room and since it looks like a pear I am calling it my "Pear for the Day". I cleaned it up with clorox and use a black pitt pen to draw the design.

Day 6 - pen and ink

I think this pear must have needed fertilizing it is so skinny. Just a quick pen and ink sketch filled in with watercolor.

Day 6

I had a 9" X 12" canvas panel that was still wrapped in cellophane. I used some old prisimacolor and tiara markers to draw the pear. The picture probably won't last but it was an interesting effect the way the markers reacted to the cellophane. Now I'll try making a monoprint from the drawing.

Day 5 - Inktense pencils and acrylic

I decided to publish (to blogger) my failures also. On a scale of one to ten this is a 10-1/2.

Been reading a lot about inktense pencils in EDM so I decided to try them and dug out an old set I had.
At first I wanted to do an acrylic background in a light watercolor effect. Ha! This is way too dark. Then I had to paint an underground in acrylic white because the intense were not opaque enough to cover this "light" background. The intense went on fairly good but then when I added water. Ugh! It puddeled and blotched all over the place. I let them dry well and then added another layer...water..ugh again.
Inktenses do not work well over an acrylic background, or, at least, I don't know how to use them properly on this background.
I also decided that the next time I do a study like this I will also include how much time it took me for each study.
